We’ve been able to resolve a problem resulting in co.uk domain names not being checked for availability. Please note that due to Nominet’s restrictions there is a limit of the amount of domain names that can be checked in one run.
Stay tuned for an update to our desktop domain name search application!
We’ve just released version 1.0.5 of the DomBuddy.com Domain Name Generator Desktop Client. This release fixes a few bugs and introduces a new dynamic interface that we will use to make new features available to our Desktop Client users even before they get built into the online version.

The new interface features a bookmarks/scratch pad system with multiple pads/lists to collect domain names that you find interesting.

The new feature “dynamic user interface” means that the tabs used for interaction between the user and our domain name search server are created “on the fly”, every time you start the client. That way we will be able to add new features to the desktop client without the need for a software upgrade on the user side.

The MacOS X Universal Binary release is untested and considered unstable. Due to user interface restrictions (tab control width) we had to limit the maximum amount of visible tabs to 7. You may use the “Manage Additional Tabs” window to activate or deactivate tabs.

We’ve had some questions regarding the user account management within our domain name generator’s desktop client.
The user account tab is available since version 1.0.3 for both Windows and MacOS X and can be found under the Help/About menu link.
Please note that versions earlier than 1.0.5 do not report a wrong password to the user, so make sure you copy the correct user name and API key into the dialog. Note that the API key is not equal to your password and will be sent to you by mail during the registration process.
Version 1.0.5, due for release in the next couple of weeks, will properly report a username/API key mismatch and automatically remind users to enter their account information in order to get full access to the free client.
The new client also supports a multi-tier membership system which we will initially use to reward beta testers and regular users for feature requests and suggestions.

We have just added some exciting new features to our domain name search tools:
Premium Domain Name Search

We have added a new generator to the workbench. The Premium Name Search tool gives you access to domain names containing actual exact search phrases. The feature is a work in progress and we will extend it in the next couple of weeks.
Automatically find synonyms for your word lists
We have added a new feature to the “Idea Finder” with which you can start your name search with just a couple of keywords and let our domain name generator search for synonyms and related words to be included in your search.

More keyword lists available
Following some requests for more word lists, we have once again added some new keyword lists. If you require more and believe that others might find these just as useful, please feel free to send in your contributions.
We’ve added new keyword lists to our keyword domain name generator for the new category “Geo Terms”.
The new lists are:
- Top 100 US cities (by population)
- US States (abbreviations)
- US States (full names)
- World Countries (codes)
All lists are available immediately in our online domain name generator and also in our desktop client.
If you have any ideas for new keyword lists that you would like to see included in our domain name generator, please let us know.

Thanks to our first users, we’ve been able to improve our Domain Name Generator Desktop Client significantly. The upcoming release 1.0.5 for Windows and Mac will feature bookmarks/favorites management (remember the names you like while searching) and include the Random Dictionary Words Generator known from our online client.
The next major release 2.0, due at the end of the year, will bring further improvements and an all-new domain name search wizard that will make domain name search as easy as you could imagine.
Please keep the feature requests and suggestions coming. We appreciate your input!

This is the first public release for the MacOS X version of the desktop domain name generator. This package does not come with an installer — just extract the TAR file and run the tool. All features are working. However, some cosmetic fixes will still be necessary. All comments welcome.
